Priority Actions
2.1 Iconic Town Entrances Update
After consideration of a project proposal and internal Council discussion, it is thought the East Murchison town entrances could be designed or scoped further internally. The emphasis is on using native trees to enhance existing riverine environment, by removing weeds, invasive tree species and tidying up saplings along the road verge and to create visual interest on the approach to East Murchison for residents, road and rail users. It has been suggested that the committee select three types of trees, suggest locations and what type of signage is required.
3.1 Rail Trail Update
In-house Council report and recommendations are to be submitted to Council on bridge safety issues and engineering costs. Megan and Rhonda checked access to the old railway trestle bridge along the old railway track through the Red Gum forest. The site is accessible and very appealing but does need to be better maintained. An alternative route to cross the river to east Murchison is viable along dirt roads and main bridge if access to the old trestle bridge is not possible. The committee will seek grant opportunities once advised of Council recommendations.
4.1 Youth Spot Update
No update.
5.1 Recreation Reserve Master plan Update
Recreation Reserve Committee (RRC) member Dick Feehan in attendance regarding football and netball club upgrade proposal. More communication between all parties is needed before a Master Plan proposal is submitted for funding. It is becoming apparent that there is an opportunity to broaden the scope of the project to encompass the total Recreation Reserve, not just the sporting complex.
Other Business
6.1 Municipal decorations
Council has organized a selection of boxes, decals, bin and bench covers to be installed in the main street. Locations were proposed around the Post Office, Heritage Centre and park.
